March 11th
For breakfast I ate Numbers 32 and 33. This is the story of the Reubenites and Gadites who wanted to stay on the otherside of the Jordan. They promised to go in and fight for the Promised Land but then they would return to the otherside of the Jordan. Even though God promises to give us the Promised Land we do not have to accept it. He gives us the choice. A phrase that jumped out at me is when Moses was describing Joshua and Caleb. He said, "they followed the LORD, wholeheartedly." They were completely sold out for god. To go along with this is the instructions God gave to completely destroy the idols in the land and even the inhabitants. But if they did not, "those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides." We cannot compromise with sin - not even a little.
