Give us meat!
This morning I consumed Numbers 11-13. This is the part of the story where the Israelites started complaining about eating manna. They want meat. They remember how they had free fish in Egypt and many other kinds of food. They are bored of the same routine of gathering manna and they want something more meaty. So God sends them meat. Quail. 3 feet deep. The Scripture says they were so full of meet it began coming out of their nostrils! Then there is the interesting dialogue between Moses and God and how Moses is ready to just give up on everything. The people are never satisfied. God intervenes and finds 70 leaders to carry some of the burden that Moses is feeling. Finally, the story about the 12 spies that went to Canaan and only two (Joshua and Caleb) believed they could take the land. They all agreed the land was flowing with milk and honey but 10 of them feared the giants in the land.
These chapters are very relevant to us today. How often does our flesh scream "Give us meat!" when God can fully satisfy us. Why can we not allow Him to be our provider and sustainer - we are constantly following after other desires. We also do not trust God to fight the giants in our lives. We only see things rationally and "realistically." How much we need to trust Him!
Lord, help us to never grow tired of the nourishment that you give us. Give us a deeper hunger for your Word and a resolve to continue to eat of it. Lord, help us to trust you to fight the battles for us and not to look at everything with "human" "earthly" perspectives. Lord, we choose to trust you to be our provider, our sustainer and our warrior. Thank you for all that you have done for us.
