Eternal Words
Whenever we say something we can never take it back. When sound comes out of our mouths it enters eternity. We must be careful what we say. We must think before we speak. I find it fascinating that Jacob was able to steal Esau's blessing because Isaac spoke the blessing to Jacob even though Jacob and Rachel tricked Isaac into thinking that Jacob was Esau. Isaac actually gave a "curse" type blessing to Esau because he had already spoken the blessing to Jacob. I find this all very strange. Why couldn't Isaac just bless Esau as well? It seems like the people during that time really felt that once the words were spoken there was no way to retrieve them. I guess its a lesson for me to be careful what I say. That everything that comes from my mouth would be honoring to God and would be words of truth.
Lord, guard my tongue. May the words that come from my mouth be your words. May they be powerful and encouraging. Comforting and compassionate. May they be full of life and truth.

Another area that talks about this idea of thinking before you speak is Ecc 5. (the verses we memorized)
"Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven, and you are on earth, therefore let your words be few."
This just seems to confirm this idea that God does take us at our word--if we make a vow, pay up!
Also, the parable in the New Testament about the two men--one who says he won't do the work of the master, but then does it, and the man who says he will do the work of the master, but doesn't do it. And the result of this was the first is better than the second. Because it is in our actions that we show our faith.
