Elihu's final words

35-37 are Elihu's final words to Job before God speaks. Again I'm amazed at how the book of Job uses everyday life and science (rain, snow) to explain things. Its fascinating to me. There were a couple notes on music which I want to point out. "But no one says, 'Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night" (35:10). This speaks to me about inspiration that God gives us. In the night, could be literal or even during "dark" times. Music is a source of comfort. "Remember to extol his work, which men have praised in song" (36:24). Music is also a vehicle to carry our praises of what God has done. For some reason music and song helps us in magnifying his works. This verse spoke to me again, "But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering; he speaks to them in their affliction" (36:15). Its THROUGH suffering and afflication that we find deliverance and the voice of God speaking to us. Thinking again about the disaster from hurricane Katrina, Elihu says, "He brings the clouds to punish men, or to water his earth and show his love" (37:13). God sends the rain and it comes upon both the righteous and the unrighteous. Who are we to judge? God is the Judge.

Lord, I am amazed at the way you work. Your ways are mysterious and difficult for me to understand. Lord open my eyes to the work of Your hand. Give me songs to express what you are doing. Lord, help me to hear Your voice in the midst of suffering. Help me to trust You when my flesh screams against me. Lord deliver me in the way that You deliver. You are God.
