Josh 3-6. This morning's bread was the fascinating story of crossing the Jordan and taking Jericho. Such a strange and yet awesome story. God was securing Joshua's leadership and showing His power to the Israelites through these miraculous events. Once again we see God instructing them to set up a memorial so they would not forget. Once they crossed the Jordan, they were all circumcised because they hadn't been circumcised in the wilderness. Then they observed the Passover. The day after the Passover they ate produce from the land and after that day the manna stopped appearing. I find all these events fascinating and my mind thinks about eating the produce of heaven. Taking the city seemed easy and yet they had to go in and slaughter everyone and everything. Rahab was spared and Joshua gave an oath - which was a curse against anyone who tried to rebuild Jericho.
Lord, your ways are beyond our ways and your purposes are beyond our comprehension. Lord, may we trust you to make the way for us, to fight for us, to provide for us. Remind us of your power and the many ways you have worked in our lives.
