March 19th

Ate Deut 19-22 for breakfast. There were alot of rules and regulations in this morning's reading. Alto of these rules were to keep the people pure and to purge the evil from among them. But, there is a short passage that leaped off the page for me. "It you come across a bird's nest beside the road, either in a tree or on the ground, and the mother is sitting on the young or on the eggs, do not take the mother with the young. You may take the young, but be sure to let the mother go, so that it may go well with you and you may have a long life." It's such a strange passage. What does it have to do with our lives? What does it say about Jesus? After reflecting a bit, I believe God is showing how delicate life is and how precious - even the sparrow is to Him. After all, his eye is on the sparrow and he knows whenever one dies. If the mother is allowed to live than the birds can still multiply - life is allowed to continue. If only the mother is taken - the babies will die and their lives will be wasted. We need to have an eye for every detail of life. All life is precious to God and He cares for every part of His creation. Oh...I almost forgot. The passage about anyone who commits a capital offense and is put to death on a tree - is supposed to be taken down that day and not left overnight. Such a strange law - but for us on this side of the cross, we see how God's amazing plan is seen - even in the law. God's ways are bind-boggling!
